Live Wire Electric began in Rodney Nelson’s home in 1990, he has held an Electrical Masters License since 1991. He and wife, Bev, purchased Whitmore Electric on West Grimes in 2000 where they acquired a retail store and more valued customers. Rod began in the electrical business in 1983 working for Mel Whitmore of Whitmore Electric, then went on the work as an electrician and machine maintenance technician in several Fairfield manufacturers. Purchasing the site on West Grimes gave Live Wire a “home” where customers can stop in for appointments and purchase from the retail store.
Rod and Bev are Fairfield graduates and are active in both the Fairfield and Libertyville communities. Rod is the former Mayor of Libertyville (2010-2022). He is also a member of the local Elks, Fairfield Economic Development Association and Iowa Inspectors Association. Bev is a past Fairfield Chamber of Commerce President and current Chamber Board Member and Ambassador. She is on the board of the Great Prairie AEA. They have one son, Trenton Nelson, also an FHS graduate residing in Libertyville, IA, who operates Straight Up Doors.
